Hawk Green Pass the Baton

As part of 'THE PASS THE BATON' events in the borough's parks and green spaces, Hawk Green Residents Association held a Fun Day on The Green on Saturday 7th July 2012. Events included Races, Games, Face Painting, Pony Rides, Hook a Duck, Dancers, Exhibitions, Tug of war and various stalls.

Shaw Cairn Open Day 2012

Shaw Cairn is an early Bronze Age burial ground on Mellor Moor. Finds there include cremated bones, amber beads, pottery and flint knives. Excavation of the cairn and surrounding is an ongoing project by the Mellor Archaeological Trust. The photos in this album are from the MAT Open Weekend on 21 & 22 July 2012.

Chadkirk Festival 2012 / Opening of Chadkirk Bridge

On Sunday 29 July during the Chadkirk Festival the new Bridge for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders was officially opened by Alan Newton, a Stockport man who won a cycling bronze medal for Great Britain at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.

Romiley Young Farmers Show 2012

Romiley Young Farmers Show held it's second annual event in September at Gothic Farm, off Compstall Road. It's great to see this well supported local event back on track after several years of wash-outs and we hope it goes from strength to strength. Marple Festival 2012

Marple's Third Festival was a mini-festival focused mainly around the Food and Drink Day over the weekend of 21 to 23 September 2012. There were events on the Market Street Precinct on the Friday and Saturday and a weekend-long beer festival at Marple Cricket Club. This album captures the best moments from the Festival taken by local photographers. Please send in yours.

Handover of Iron Age Ditch 2012

A section of Ann and John Hearle's garden at the Old Vicarage, Mellor, was handed over to the people of Stockport on Sunday 30 September 2012. The piece of land contains the exposed part of an Iron-Age ditch with a bridge over from the Roman Garden to the far side with Interpretation Boards.

Otterspool Bridge Tragedy 1935During bridge repairs in 1935 a 40 ton travelling crane fell into the river. Sadly the crane driver was trapped inside the cabin and despite his workmates best efforts he drowned before they could pull him out. From Marple Local History Society Archives.
